Bad Zurzach has been a place that people have visited since the early Middle Ages. Believers made pilgrimages to the grave of St. Verena, and later the Zurzach markets and fairs brought traders from all over Europe to the town. They were busy days with exuberant celebrations and dancing.<\/p>\n\n<\/section>\n\n

The market tradition has remained alive in Bad Zurzach all year round. The Zurzim\u00e4rt takes place every Saturday around the Verenam\u00fcnster. In summer, the sounds of barrel organs ring through the streets and alleyways at the flea and antiques market, while the Christmas market stalls light up with a festive atmosphere during Advent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pilgrimage tradition also continues to this day. Verena Day is celebrated on September 1 with a church service and a communal meal. “Verena plays” – theater productions based on the legend of Saint Verena – are also part of the Zurzach tradition.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The people of Zurzibieten have been cultivating conviviality and hospitality for many centuries. In summer, locals and spa guests meet in the spa gardens to dance or visit the open-air cinema.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A few unusual figures roam Bad Zurzach, especially during the carnival season: The \u00c4ttir\u00fcedi parades through the streets on Ash Wednesday and throws nuts, mandarinli and sweets to the shouting children. Later that evening, the H\u00fc\u00fclwyber gather at the Sternenbrunnen to pay their last respects to Prince Karneval and entrust his mortal remains to the waters of the Rhine. The “L\u00e4tschete” is known beyond the region as a special carnival custom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
